I made Calculations in September of 2001 a few days after the destruction of the World Trade Center. I had recently scanned a slide rule for my Direct Objects series and it was on my desk when I saw a graphic in The New York Times indicating where on the towers the two planes had struck. I decided to recreate the Times graphic using my slide rule and added a title linking the function of the slide rule and the planning for the attack.
