Printing larger than my normal practice has allowed me to experiment with representational scale. In Calculations and Catastrophes, I greatly enlarged relatively small objects, changing the way they may be perceived. In Plain + Fancy I represented the depicted subject matter at close to life scale, changing the viewing experience.

 

Photographs at this scale hold the gallery wall more boldly than smaller prints and engage viewers in a manner similar to paintings. I have described the Plain + Fancy series as my venture into Color Field painting and many viewers have told me that they initially perceived the pairs in exactly that way.

 

I have shown these works in both traditional framed and glazed versions and unframed hanging scroll versions.
