Plain + Fancy
2008-2018

"Plain and Fancy" is the name of a well known restaurant in Lancaster County that is a favorite with tourists who come to experience something of the Amish lifestyle. It is also an appropriate title for this series, which looks at the sharp distinction Amish culture draws between public and private space.

These printed pairs are large, at 56x42 inches, and they are sometimes perceived - at first glance - as color-field paintings,

They have been exhibited in two variations: as a pair of separately framed prints and as two images on a single sheet of paper, presented unframed, scroll-style.

A deluxe book version of Plain + Fancy is available for purchase. Please go to the Book Works tab.
