A perfect storm of development pressures, lack of historic preservation and poor city enforcement have rendered West Philadelphia ripe for exploitation.

This is not "gentrification" in its usual sense. In many ways the neighborhoods are degraded as cheap, ugly and oversize infill destroys any sense of harmony or grace in the urban fabric.

 

This is the area in which I reside and I have become sensitized to these problems through involvement with community organizing and historic preservation.
